Drugs do not just affect those who are addicted. The pain and suffering of addiction is far reaching and includes friends and loved ones. Living with, or having a cocaine addict in the family can cause rifts between every member of the family. Many people are torn between trying to “help” the addict by enabling them to continue to do drugs, and wanting to take action to see that the addict gets help. There is an old expression called “tough love” and being committed to getting help for an addicted family member often calls for it. Cocaine addicts seldom (okay, never) just give up the addiction quietly because they see their family suffering. In fact, the addict will deny that the family is suffering.

It takes some diligence to help a cocaine addict in the family. The first thing is to let them know that you are aware that they have a drug problem. Addicts often think they are fooling their family and are well able to hide their addiction, but they are not. Let it be known that there will be NO drugs in your home and (this is where the tough love comes in), throw out any drugs you do find. Offer to take the loved one to rehabilitation. Stay positive but do not allow any excuses or drug use.

Intervention is sometimes necessary. Those who have a cocaine addict in the family need to do what is necessary to help their loved one. It could save a life. In fact, those addicts who have some type of intervention are more likely to seek help quicker than those who do not get intervention. Most addicts who do receive it seek help within a week.

Loved ones have to be able to separate loving the addict and hating the drugs. Drug addiction, including cocaine, leads to violence and can even lead to death. Talking to a rehab counselor can help. They can give you some useful advice about how to handle someone who is addicted to cocaine in your family. The loved ones and family members will have to be strong, so getting help from a rehab counselor can help you to get and stay strong, not only for the addict, but for yourself and the rest of the family. It may be a tough road for a while, but it can be done. The cocaine addict can turn his/her life around and become drug-free.

I used Marijuana at break time with some friends. This was very disorienting and weird.

“Eventually it escalated into the use of methamphetamine. I thought it would give me energy to “workout”. This stuff ruined my life for quite a few years. I lost my woman and went to prison twice.

“I could write all day about it, but I have seen NOTHING good EVER come out of ANY drugs whatsoever. It ruins people’s lives of any who dabble in it.

“I KNOW that the methods of NARCONON are the best methods for an actual cure of drug addiction.”

What that means is that the treatment includes the entire person and not just the physical effects

In sharp contrast to the statistics just ten years ago, in 2007, the use of marijuana; heroin and prescription drugs such as Oxycontin were significantly up. Drug rehab centers in Canada have increased in number to try to help those who are caught in the web of drug abuse and addiction. Although there may be many different centers in Canada, not all are created equal. It is best to do a little checking before admitting yourself or loved one for treatment.

There are a wide variety of programs available in the drug rehab centers in Canada. It is becoming widely accepted that the best course of treatment is one that is holistic. What that means is that the treatment includes the entire person and not just the physical effects. Drug use does damage physically, psychologically and even spiritually. Rehabilitation cannot be considered complete until each of these aspects is dealt with.

One popular, but controversial method of rehabilitation is the use of drugs to ease the symptoms of withdrawal. In essence, it is trading one drug for another. While this method may sound tempting, the objective is to rid the body completely of drugs and not substitute one drug for another. For that reason, it is a growing trend to seek rehabilitation from centers that employ natural methods in treatments. Relaxation techniques, saunas, hot tubs and other methods are used to combat the unpleasant symptoms of withdrawal.

Drug rehab centers in Canada are normally receptive to answering your questions. A simple phone call can clear up any concerns you may have over treatment programs. It is very important to remember that the whole person must be treated and therefore, centers that simply put a bandaid on the physical withdrawal are not doing their job. Becoming drug-free is the objective. Living drug-free is the ultimate goal. This has more chance of success when a person is treated holistically.

A few phone calls or visits should clear up any doubt. You, or your loved one need help for rehabilitation, so choosing the right rehab center in Canada is an important step. Becoming drug-free is a big step and choosing the right rehab center can mean the difference between success and failure. No one can guarantee success. In fact, many people have to repeat rehab two or more times before they are successful. With the right rehab center, however, there is a greater chance of ultimate success.

Drug addiction is a problem that can destroy or devastate the family and social lives of any person. This is something that needs to be cured and a person with an addiction should enter a drug and alcohol rehab center to eliminate this huge problem from their life.

Most people find it difficult to locate these rehab centers mainly because there are very few of them. The main rehab centers are located in far-flung areas away from the cities so the patients can be easily treated and kept away from the hustle of the city. However, in addition to the private rehab centers, there are also many government-funded alcohol and drug rehab centers that individuals or family members can contact to get patients admitted. These government centers offer free treatment and they are generally somewhat reasonable in terms of their care and comfort. Because local and federal governments fund them, they can only provide basic services, unlike the comfortable and luxurious environments at private drug and alcohol rehab centers. This makes the private centers much more desirable to those people who are not financially weak and can afford to spend a lot of money.

Government-funded drug and alcohol rehab centers also follow the 12-step philosophy, which ensures that each patient gets treated with the utmost care, but here, no individualized counseling is offered. On the other hand, some private programs offer drugs such as anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications that can help the patient relax and come out of the recovery program early. Also, some detox professionals in private rehab centers prescribe medications to curb the patient’s withdraw symptoms, which makes the process painless for the person going through it.

The private rehab centers offer several other amenities such as pools, gyms, and proper food and exercise routines that help the patients change their lifestyles. These amenities are not provided at any government center. This is the main reason why most people prefer to enter private rehab centers. However, those who cannot afford the huge cost of private rehab centers can opt for the government centers where they would also receive complete treatment but they would not have the facilities like those in the private rehab centers.
