It is not safe for your baby to take any drugs, prescription or illicit during pregnancy. If you have a drug addiction and pregnant, seek drug addict help from a natural, drug free program to get you and baby off drugs, and have a happier life.

Using drugs during pregnancy puts at risk the unborn child. Many drugs cross the placenta barrier that normally protects the child from toxins and infections present in the mother. All illicit, prescription and OTC drugs have a risk of potential damage – there is no “safe” dose because drug effects on the developing child can be unpredictable.

Cocaine is known to cause changes in the structure of the brain, cocaine remains in the fetus for longer than in an adult. Marijuana increases carbon dioxide and monoxide levels in the blood, leading to fetal oxygen deprivation.

Addicts take hope from many studies that report inconclusive findings about specific drug use and fetal toxicity. They think that this means they can safely use drugs during pregnancy. What these reports are really saying is that children are suffering damage, but that there are so many other toxic factors in most drug addicts lives, that it impossible to be certain, on a scientific basis, what contribution drug effects have on the general problems.

Anyone who chooses drug use in preference to having concern for the risk to their child would benefit from comprehensive drug addict help, both for the pregnancy and for the future.

Even a small quantity of certain drugs can cause birth defects and problems for the child, depending on the trimester of pregnancy when the drug is taken. Anyone using or thinking of using drugs in pregnancy needs to consider comprehensive drug addict help and re consider their lifestyle.

Drug exposure during pregnancy leads to a greater risk of premature birth, “low birth weight”, cardiac and circulatory problems, and developmental defects. There is a risk of miscarriage. Often drugs cause the placenta to separate from the uterine wall, or impede nutrients and oxygen getting to the child. Term babies can be “still” born.

Children exposed to drug effects in the womb can suffer withdrawal symptoms at birth. Babies born addicted are at greater risk of “failure to thrive” and cot death. Later in life subtle damage to the brain may result in learning and attention difficulties, and a low IQ.

Illicit drug use in late pregnancy is associated with high blood pressure, pre-eclampsia and fetal/neonatal death. Royal Brisbane & Women’s Hospital reports a case of stillbirth in a young woman who took ecstasy and LSD during late term pregnancy, in 2010.

A study of children in Quebec, Canada, by Health Canada, in 2004, concluded that a modest risk of childhood leukemia was associated with mother’s taking medications during pregnancy. If the drugs taken were teratogenic, then the risk was higher.

Carrying a healthy baby to term is more than just getting off drugs. Pregnancy should be a time when a mother nurtures herself for the benefit of the baby. This means nutritious food, rest and relaxation. While the toxic effects on the fetus of tobacco and alcohol are well recorded, drug statistics and studies are less available.

However, general studies make the position clear – increased risk of death for both mother and child occurs with illicit drug use (Abdel-Latif 2007). Often getting drug addict help *** is hindered because women don’t like to admit to a drug addiction problem, especially when pregnant.

If you are pregnant, using drugs, unsure of what to do, there are supportive, drug free comprehensive addiction programs, in Canada, to help you and your baby get off drugs completely, and live a healthy life.

Getting to yes in addiction recovery means to be able to say – yes, I once was an addict, but I am an addict no more. Getting to yes is all important for addiction recovery – the glorious day you are able to say – yes, I have recovered from my addiction. When locked in the cycle of addiction many addicts dream that they might become free of addiction – one day. Addict help for full addiction recovery means taking a positive step, accepting that for full recovery you are going to need addict help

The right type of help for addiction recovery is crucial from the start – for complete addiction recovery you need a comprehensive program that is wide ranging in scope and inclusive of all that you need in the way of addict help to overcome your addiction.

Often an alcohol and drug addiction recovery center that has residential facilities is to be preferred, as offering a complete environment in which addicts can best begin recovery. Addiction recovery means a new way of life – going into a residential addiction recovery centre is a good way to start with the new.

Most addict help for addiction recovery starts with drug detox – what better way to start your program than with a complete break from drugs – using a natural detox program that is 100% drug free. Natural detox treatments that are fully supported and monitored will form part of a comprehensive addiction recovery program. Say no to drugs, right from the beginning – start as you mean to go on.

Residential addiction recovery centers will include a nourishing environment to enhance the benefit of all inclusive support. Large amounts of healthy food, plenty of sleep and fresh water, all provide addict help with recovery.

The addict will find his day very full in a residential addiction recovery center –addiction recovery is no holiday – in many ways it is better. From a holiday you only go back to your old ways, hopefully refreshed – from addiction recovery you go on to a better way of life.

Addict help for full addiction recovery means improving confidence and style. A comprehensive addiction recovery program means that this is all included – blended in, and in harmony with the physical recovery process.

Natural ways of learning to overcome addiction open up body and mind to a new, relaxed way of being. With emotional release of tension comes feelings of inner peace – a comprehensive recovery plan seamlessly blends the old ways that work and provides better solutions for issues that trouble you.

Peace of mind and strength of purpose are developed fully when you use a drug free comprehensive addiction recovery program. Wide in scope and full of promise for a better future – comprehensive drug recovery programs provide addict help and peace of mind.

In comprehensive addiction recovery programs there is ample time, plenty of scope to work at your own pace – nothing hurried, nothing rushed – yet complete, and disciplined. Tried and tested treatments methods help to build a climate of trust – trust and hope go hand in hand when the going gets rough, as from time to time it will.

Full addiction recovery means dealing with some powerful emotions and feelings – a comprehensive addiction recovery program provides support for you, every step of the way.

If you are looking for addict help, for yourself or a friend – use a comprehensive addiction recovery center that can give you all that you need when getting to yes with addiction recovery.

At Narconon Trois-rivières real people are available to people reaching out for help. An alcohol addiction helpline staff member is not only there to talk, but more importantly, to listen.

Most alcohol addiction helplines are staffed by people who have some sort of a script that they work from. It includes not only information to provide, but also gives the newer staff guidelines from which to work. This is to be expected. However, when someone calls a help-line, they don’t just want information, they want help; honest and sincere help from a caring individual.

At Narconon Trois-rivières real people are available to people reaching out for help. An alcohol addiction helpline staff member is not only there to talk, but more importantly, to listen. Someone who calls an addiction helpline wants to speak to someone who will understand. Many times, they just need to vent before they are ready to listen to advice or recommendations. Scripts are fine as a guideline, but a well staffed helpline, with experienced counselors in alcohol abuse and interventions, will provide good listeners. People should expect understanding and compassion from an alcohol addiction helpline.

They should expect the truth from whoever answers the call. People should expect clear and understandable responses. They might also expect to hear some things they may not want to hear. For instance, if someone calls a helpline wanting to know how to help a loved one, they may hear that to help alcoholic, loved ones must set limitations and stick to them. This also means a confrontation. However, this is exactly what must be done, so it should not be sugar-coated. Alcoholism is not pretty, and neither is dealing with it. Counselors at Narconon Trois-Rivières are keenly aware of this.

When one graduates at Narconon Trois-Rivières

People should expect to have whatever emotion they are feeling to be accepted. There is a lot of emotion involved in alcohol addiction. Everyone involved will have a lot of different emotions. Trained helpline staff will understand this and help the caller through it, often just by listening.

If the person is calling to find information about a particular treatment center, they should get all of the information they need, honestly and sincerely. They should expect to be treated with respect, and dignity. They should also expect the cold, hard truth. What they should NOT expect is to be pacified. Alcohol addiction helplines were created to help. It’s that simple. Enabling or pacifying a caller is not helpful in any situation. Understanding is the one key thing that can take a person from alcoholic to an alcohol-free and drug-free life.

Tension and pain in the body is a symptom of distress. Holistic drug free therapies and counseling help the body to heal and mend itself.

The releasing of tension and pain is something that people strive to achieve when providing addict help. Tension and pain are usually seen as conditions to be treated. If you can get relief from these symptoms it will ease the suffering.

The result of treating tension and pain in a two dimensional frame leads to an observation of the symptoms and then making a choice from available options as to what best treatment there is for your particular range of symptoms.

Drugs are known to provide swift and effective results – there are prescriptions and medications you can take for stomach ache, headache, back ache – in fact every kind of pain. Most painkillers work by cutting off feeling in certain nerves, stopping the nervous system from recognizing that it has a problem. When the analgesic effects wear off and you still suffer from physical pain – you simply take some more medication.

Similarly when people suffer from emotional tension and pain – which is expressed as feelings of depression or anxiety – anger and frustration – drugs are available to treat the unwanted symptoms and make people feel instantly better.

There are also a variety of health care options which act directly to make people feel more comfortable. This can involve relaxation techniques, relaxation and therapeutic massage, aromatherapies, and meditation – because these methods don’t directly involve drug use they are often called holistic therapies.

Genuine holistic treatments involve not only the person to be treated, but their whole environment. The scientific method deals only with observable events which can be measured and compared. This reductionist view of the environment only responds to “evidence based” facts and knowledge.

The holistic approach looks at symptoms and pain in the context of a whole environment, not limited to what can be seen and observed under a microscope.

When we feel stress and anxiety there is no doubt that it brings about physical changes in the body. Finding chemicals that will modify these natural responses to stress only provides symptomatic relief. Treating symptoms without moderating underlying causes can actually promote and intensify in the longer term the difficulties we have.

When stress causes physical change to the body it is called an affective response. When an affective response feels painful – it signals a need to make changes in your life. Tension is felt in the body when the physical imperative to make change is rejected or denied. If healthy changes are not made, the body accepts this new status quo – chemical changes take place so as to best accommodate to the toxic environment.

Symptoms of stress can be strange and weird – we want to have a healthy body. We don’t see pain and tension as a call to make changes. We don’t want to deal with our pain – just want it taken away. It is of concern that science is now experimenting with quick acting anti depressants. Depression definitely causes distress and feelings of unease – you need to look at the causes – not blot these feelings out.

Tension and pain can be relieved by natural chemical process in the body. Trauma to the body in the form of drug use and lifestyle stress impacts on the body – the body is disabled from achieving a healthy homeostasis.

Drug use and lifestyle are choices that we make. Holistic methods are respectful of and work towards restoring the body to health. Medicating to eradicate symptoms that are distress calls from the body would seem to be a strange way to operate if you want to bring about good health and give addict help.

Going into a relationship with an addict to either care for or rescue them can lead to feelngs of anger and despair. Holistic counseling methods can provide mediation, addict help and healing.

People get into relationships with drug addicts and alcoholics, sometimes fully aware from the beginning that their chosen partner has problems with substance abuse. Often it is their intention, whether they realize it or not, to be giving addict help. This can be done intending to care for them, or it can be our intention to try and rescue them from their situation.

People look to substance abuse to find emotional security, feelings of comfort and self esteem – something that we normally get as a child and feel entitled to receive.

When, for whatever reason, a child has grown up with a sense of something ‘lacking’ at an emotional level – they will act in ways that they hope will provide them with the satisfaction that they crave. Once a person has found an answer to their need in drug or alcohol abuse, it creates a compulsion to keep using the substance of choice.

Few people realize the powerful attraction of addictive substances when they decide to become involved with an addict. It is jokingly said that when a woman wants to marry – it is always with the intention – “ I will alter him”. Of all the behaviors that people hope to change with caring, love and marriage, nothing is more likely to founder on the rocks of despair than an intention to give a drug addict help.

In personal relationships people with addictive and related emotional problems tend to be either highly dependent individuals or else they defend against feelings of inadequacy and fear by keeping themselves at an emotional distance from other people. The addict uses substances in preference to real intimacy because it makes them, in the early days, feel powerful and in control.

There is no doubt that whatever the depth of our emotional pain, we still try to find relationship with other people in the best way that we can. As a result, people will go out into the world looking for a partner who will meet their emotional need. When two such people meet up and their mutual needs correspond – it can often feel like true love – like a marriage made in heaven.

Need based relationships can provide a sense of satisfaction and security. Such relationships tend to be insular, each very dependent upon the other and neither looking far outside of the relationship for support or friendship.

When people prioritize their “need” for relationship -flaws are ignored or denied, important issues are not discussed. People desperate for relationship simply plunge in, and hope for the best.

When problems emerge, both partners can feel very isolated and alone. Feelings of depression anger and despair become intense when substance abuse is involved.

When the relationship does not meet expectations, there can be feelings of betrayal, humiliation, anger, anxiety and depression. Power struggles emerge when the idealized partner does not act exactly as expected. The relationship simply becomes a series of mutual demands as each tries to get what they need out of the relationship – at the expense of the other.

Addiction issues can lead to violent rows, passive and sullen resentment. People cling to the relationship in hope that things will improve, that in some way they can get back to the lost “ideal”

Dealing with substance abuse means abandoning the illusion and taking stock of what is really happening in the relationship. Often getting help to sort out relationship issues means that both parties need the intervention of a skilled outside observer who can provide both mediation and effective addict help.

When addiction is considered to be "incurable" it prevents the possibility of finding emotional healing and recovery from addiction.

Whilst the content of a recent interview with “recovering” cocaine addict Aaron Sorkin is no doubt well intentioned, as being an admission, rather than a denial of the problems which this renowned author and playwright has faced as a result of his cocaine use over the years, there are aspects of it which are quite frankly disturbing.

People who place reliance for their income and social prestige upon being in the spotlight and have a public following, together with those who create the publicity, do to some extent have a responsibility to the general public, and particularly towards children, to take care in what they say about the things they do, their opinions and beliefs.

Quote: “The hardest thing I do every day is not take cocaine”.

“You don’t get cured of addiction – you’re just in remission.”

“I’ll have credibility with her when it comes to drugs. I won’t be some old guy who doesn’t know how to have fun”.

The article mentions the “battle with drug addiction”, the “trips to rehab” and the “inevitable relapses”

The impression given is that of a somewhat jocular response to a pattern of behavior which is at best self-destructive and can cause problems for people closest. There would appear to be an almost total abandonment of personal responsibility and a resigned “acceptance” that drug use is something consistent with having “fun”, something that you can do for “kicks” and get away with if you can, that only fools get caught, and that it is really not your fault if you keep going into rehab and having remissions, because addiction cannot be cured.

True enough, addiction cannot be cured by traditional detox and rehab methods.

Addiction is only a symptom of an underlying condition – emotional tension and stress – which involves the mind, body and spirit. You do not cure the “spots” which appear as symptoms when a person has measles or chicken pox. You help the body to heal itself of the underlying disorder, and the spots then disappear.

What can be helped, by holistic methods where addiction is concerned are the many ways that people try and fail to deal effectively with their emotions.

When a person has dealt with and resolved their emotional problems and issues they don’t find it hard every day to do without drugs of addiction. They don’t have the stress or the tension – there is no desire to use.

You will not be “cured” of your addiction, and you will remain in remission if you don’t tackle the emotional issues involved when you choose to use drugs of addiction.

Relapses are not inevitable when you use detox and rehab methods which are based on holistic principles. Use holistic treatments which are 100% drug free and holistic methods which can help you to sort out your emotions and become healthy.

People who are exceptionally artistic, creative, who channel their energy into a single field will often neglect other aspects of their lives in favor of this outlet. Drug use often serves to create a balance and distraction, a form of relaxation which no other relationship can provide.

Dealing with the addiction can often mean, for famous people, questioning their reasons, their need and their drive to achieve in a particular area of life at the expense of any other. Famous people should take care not impose their opinions as fact and make it appear to the public in general that addiction cannot be resolved.

When giving addicts help the most important thing is to be able listen to their needs. Addicts know what their problems are - they need the help of a careful listener to help them to work things out.

People today who turn to drug addiction complain that they are not heard –that no one is willing to listen to them talk about their problems, and fair enough, we all have our share – who can take any more on board?

When faced with someone and their problems our tendency is to try and quickly fix it, to try and make them feel better. Other people’s problems are often treated by people in a superficial way – it takes time to become involved with other people’s problems and it can be emotionally draining. If you want to give an addict help you must be prepared to make yourself available and ready to listen.

Drug addicts know their problems well, they confront them every day.Drug use gives them fleeting pleasure in a world that is not willing to listen to what they have to say. Before you can give an addict help you must be willing to listen.

The average conversation between acquaintances and friends is like an exchange of information. When people talk they expect the other to respond with their views and opinions. People often do more talking than listening when in conversation. When trying to give an addict help, your focus must be on listening carefully to what they say, to think of ways to give them help. There is no point in jumping in with your ideas and remedies to resolve their situation. What gives addicts help the most is to provide them with a space to talk with someone who can listen.

Often a person starts to feel better at once when they know that someone is interested enough in them to want to hear about their problems. Sometimes a person is not ready to talk about their feelings until they have talked about their problems. To give an addict help you must expect that they might find it difficult to express their feelings. Addicts are often using drugs to cover some very negative feelings that they have about themselves.

Sometimes what people say is bothering them is not the real problem. If you jump in and resolve that, then you never get to the real problem. People sometimes need to talk about other things first before opening up to their problems, and then talking about their feelings.

There is a joke about counselors and therapists that says some do their best work when asleep in the chair and the client talks without interruption. There is in fact some truth in this because for a person to get in touch with their emotions they need to talk and express their feelings – without any well meant interruption.

To give an addict help to talk about their feelings is not as hard as it seems – all you really need to do is support more talking and exploration of their feelings. For people who are untrained it can be very difficult not to be judgmental, critical, supportive or contradictory. This does not give the other person time or space to think about how to resolve their own problems.

If someone close to you needs addict help, it can often be useful to suggest to them that they get professional help. If an addict goes to a professional counselor who is trained to help them express their feelings then they will soon begin to see why they use addictive drugs.

Professional holistic counseling can be the start of an addict choosing more healthy options.

To give an addict help to overcome addiction means helping them to find the freedom to make better choices. Holistic counseling and rehabilitation can provide effective intervention to bring about freedom of choice and the ability to make lifestyle changes.

Hobson was a horse dealer. He found that when regular customers came to choose a horse for hire, they preferred to take the best, so that some horses became overworked and others were not used at all. To resolve the problem Hobson decided that all customers would in the future take the first horse that was offered to them. Customers of course had the right to refuse, but in practical terms the customers had no alternative. If they wanted a horse then they had no choice but to accept the one that was offered. It became known as Hobson’s Choice.

When trying to give an addict help remember that when a person is addicted, they see their options in life as being restricted. Addicts believe they have Hobson’s choice about using drugs of addiction.

Most of us are faced with Hobson’s choice in many of our life situations. Alternatives may be available, but for many reasons, we can see no other option.

Drug use is all about choice - making the choice to use can seem only too easy – making a decision to stop can seem impossibly hard. It is important to understand that drug use as a solution to emotional problems only comes after there is a history of failure to negotiate a better position in life.

No one chooses drug use if there are more satisfying relationships around.

The addict, particularly a young person might have started drug use in the spirit of rebellion, or simply to get a sense of enjoyment out of life.

Some young people use drugs to escape from feelings of sadness about relationships that have failed them, they feel very much alone.

Others might do drugs to escape from demands that put them under emotional pressure.

To give addicts help you can tell them that you understand how the world can be disappointing -ask the addict how things could change that would make them feel more happy.

To give an addict help who is close to you, it can be useful to ask them how they would like you to change. This is not to say that you need to do whatever it is that they want. However, it opens up communication, and lets you hear what it is that the addict is in need of. Open, honest communication of real thoughts and feelings opens up the possibility of change.

When people are very close, and there are long standing “issues” between them, it is common for the dialogue to become stale – the same old problems are met with the same responses – and nothing ever changes. When a person has chosen any form of drug addiction as an alternative to real relationship, it means that they feel that there are no other options.

To give an addict help to relieve the “locked” situation that drug addiction brings there is a need for intervention. There needs to be something new introduced into the life of the addict so that it challenges his way of being.

Holistic drug rehabilitation and counseling provides addict help to find alternative ways for the addict to deal with his life. He will feel empowered to bring about change, to make realistic choices. With an end to internal emotional conflicts, addictive behavior can be brought to an end and an addict become drug free. Where doing drugs is concerned the addict will find that it is no longer Hobson’s Choice.

Holistic intervention enables addicts to overcome drug dependency. Holistic methods of detox and rehab give addicts help to free themselves from emotional pain and recover from drug addiction.

Intervention is a way of giving an addict help to become free of drug addiction. It is a means of confronting the drug addict with the fact that they have a problem, and offering support for recovery.

Those closest to a drug addict will have already had experience of confrontation with the addict, and realize that trying to give addicts help with their addiction has about as much chance of success as trying to separate a hungry dog from its bone – and as much risk of injury.

Addicts locked into the cycle of drug addiction need external intervention. The relationship which develops between the addict and his drug of choice has a tendency over time to dominate and eventually exclude any other meaningful relationship in the addict’s life.

The real cost of drug addiction is not the time and money wasted in getting, using and coming down from drugs. The real cost to the user are the many lost opportunities to have a more healthy and happier style of life.

People who have been fortunate and had an upbringing which has taught them how to fully enjoy the positive aspects of life will not be attracted to drugs. People attracted to drugs use them to fill a “void” in their lives, and need addict help.

There is little point in trying to intervene in drug addiction by telling the addict what a good life he is missing out on. The addict’s previous experience of life has been one of disappointment. It was in seeking an alternative lifestyle that drug addicts have found themselves to be caught up in using drugs. They certainly don’t want to go back to the life that sent them there, even though they usually realize that doing drugs is eventually a dead end street.

The timing of an intervention to give a drug addict help will depend on many factors. However, the timing is not as important as getting the message right. What must be contained in a successful intervention is a statement that will persuade the drug addict to take up the offer rather than to continue with his drug addiction.

Drug addicts fear giving up their addiction. It is because they know that when their triggers and cues for drug use occur, the tension and anxiety will be overwhelming. Their habit has been to fix it with drugs. Addicts don’t know any better way to get addict help for the issues that cause them anxiety.

Even after detox, drug addicts will still have a craving for drugs whenever anxiety arises. This is because all addiction depends in the first place upon a person having an emotional need for the drug.

Holistic detox and rehabilitation promises release not only from physical addiction but from the emotional triggers that cause the drug addict anxiety and lead to a need for drug use.

When making an intervention intended to break the cycle of addiction, the message needs to be clear and straight forward. No compromises, no half way houses –use holistic detox and rehab for addict help and become free of addiction.

Traditional drug rehab only deals with issues relating to the use of addictive drugs. It does not attempt to deal with the more basic problem of resolving drug addiction.. Only holistic rehab centers which offer 100% drug free natural detox, therapy and counseling provide to addicts help that they need to restructure their ways of thinking so that they no longer have an emotional need for any drugs of addiction.

I used Marijuana at break time with some friends. This was very disorienting and weird.

“Eventually it escalated into the use of methamphetamine. I thought it would give me energy to “workout”. This stuff ruined my life for quite a few years. I lost my woman and went to prison twice.

“I could write all day about it, but I have seen NOTHING good EVER come out of ANY drugs whatsoever. It ruins people’s lives of any who dabble in it.

“I KNOW that the methods of NARCONON are the best methods for an actual cure of drug addiction.”
