There are an infinite number of reasons to seek help from a reputable drug rehab. An addict’s entire life can be demolished through the effects of a drug addiction. It affects every aspect of their lives and it takes the help of caring professionals at a drug rehab to help put the pieces back together. These are the top five reasons to go to drug rehab:

Mental Health: Drugs not only temporarily alter a person’s personality and mental state, but can also do long lasting damage. The longer a person is a drug addict, the more likely there are to be mental and psychological issues for that person. A drug rehab can help clarify the whole picture. They can help the addict reach a point where things can be seen more clearly and they can also make referrals for the long term. It is often so difficult for the addict to see beyond themselves and their current situation. A good drug rehab can help with that.

—–

Health: Whether a drug addict realizes it or not, drugs have a devastating effect on overall health. Not only do drugs alter the physical state short term, but long term as well. Drugs can wreak havoc on the heart, lungs, brain and other vital organs. A drug rehab can put an addict on the road to a healthier life. They can help to rid the body of the drugs and also to train the addict how to cope without the drugs.

—–

Relationships: Often, the drug addict does not realize how much drugs affect their relationships. This is because their judgment and their over-all view of life is altered by the drugs. Relationships are often destroyed as the result of drug use and addiction. In drug rehab, the addict can discover just how much their drug use has affected their relationships. They can also learn what they can do about it. Drug rehab centers help people put their relationships back together in several different ways.

—–

Family: No one suffers along with the addict as much as the family members. Families have been torn apart by the chaos caused by drug abuse and addiction. The only way to stop the chaos and begin to mend the family is by stopping the addiction. Drug rehab centers help addicts to realize the scope of the problem. They help them to see why and how the damage was done and what can be done about it.

—–

Happiness: No one sets out to become a drug addict. Once they become one, however, their lives change drastically. There often is no joy left after a while. A drug rehab center can help the addict learn how to bring that happiness back. They help the addict to realize that it is possible to be happy and healthy again.

—–

Dear Young Adults,

My name is Jason and I am a 22 year old heroin addict sitting in rehab. I started using drugs right out of elementary school at 13 years old thinking it would give me an easier time fitting in and growing up.

Once I started fitting in I still continued to use drugs anyways. I became more dependant and could never get high enough. Soon my life evolved around taking meth to have energy and doing heroin to fall asleep. I could not function normally without chemicals.

As soon as I had no stability and lost all sense of reasoning I quit all my jobs, left my family and set out to stay high. That didn’t last long and I ended up in here in rehab.

I’m finding that not only is sobriety the key to life but being able to just be comfortable without inebriation is the highest high. If you become dependant on having a clean environment, a good job, friends who motivate you, and a strong integrity towards living positively you will find you won’t need to fill your head with a false reality that you think is more ideal and easier to live in.

Sincerely,

Jason A.

Drug addiction or abuse is a consequence of the repeated and excessive use of certain medications and other substances in which certain dangerous chemicals are present. Such substances give certain effects such as the feeling of pleasure, which creates the desire to use these drugs again and again. Drug addiction is dangerous and everyone who is addicted must consider this when undergoing the appropriate procedures to heal. In this article, we will discuss how to take a step towards drug addiction recovery.

Identifying the problem

You might not immediately know that you or your loved one has become a drug addict. There are also some people who are so used to drugs that they tend to behave like normal people. In some cases, people are too intimidated to admit that they have an addiction because of their culture, race or socioeconomic status; even though they may know they have a problem. Drug addiction affects many families in many serious ways, and some families have even lost a loved one to addiction. Identifying the problem at an early stage plays a vital role in finding the perfect drug addiction recovery program that will help the addict achieve the best results. So, acquiring some knowledge about the basic signs and symptoms of drug addiction will put you in a better position to help a loved one recover.

Keep an eye on your family’s safety

Although dealing with a loved one’s drug addiction is a challenging task in terms of the fears and other emotions involved, you must still take immediate steps when an addict’s behavior places your family in danger. Some drugs such as methamphetamine and cocaine may result in agitation, delusion and mental illness and can make the user extremely dangerous. Drug addicts will do anything, including certain criminal activities like threatening their family members and stealing money and other valuables, to get drugs. So keep an eye on your family’s safety while you also focus on caring for your loved one.

Aspects of recovery programs

There are certain important aspects of drug addiction recovery programs that one must understand. You cannot force yourself or your loved ones to stop using a particular drug without any support or suitable medical treatment. Though an addict may have the desire and willpower to stop using drugs, the withdrawal symptoms are too unpleasant, dangerous and painful, and after a while the addict will start taking the drugs again. Professional drug rehab centers have the knowledge, technology and facility to help addicts to successfully withdraw from drugs with a minimum amount of discomfort.

Finding a good rehab center and choosing the correct treatment

Drug addiction affects different people in different ways, depending on the kind of drugs they used, although the basic pattern is the same. Similarly, the recovery procedures also depend on the type of drug addiction and the severity of the case. Choosing the correct treatment is essential for any drug addiction recovery program and this is only possible through reliable and experienced drug rehabilitation experts. So, it is a good idea to get as much information as possible about a particular rehab center to determine how genuine it is.

There are certain substances like Methadone, that are used in the recovery treatments of drug addiction but they can give controversial results.

Is good to know that this kind of treatment really helps!

That means, over some period of time patients get addicted to those substances leaving the actual drugs to which they were addicted. However, not all such substances will give negative results. Treatments involving Subutox Detox is an example for that and in this article I will explain about such substances.

“The medical term used to refer Subutox is Buprenorphine and is one of the FDA approved medicated formulations for the treatment of drug addictions such as Opioids.“

This is the first medicated substance among other Opioid partial agonist medicated substances to receive such approval. The unique and effective properties of Buprenorphine are the reasons behind the success of Subutex Detox. These substances take place the human organs with strong power that are affected by the misused drugs and thus block the external opioids from entering. They make good use of the already present substances in reducing the cravings for the drugs and so significantly help in reducing the painful withdrawal symptoms.

* What are the properties that are making the Subutex detox work efficiently in helping the people to come out from the drug addiction?

As said above this is the Opioid partial agonist medicated substance. There are three kinds of drugs when classified how they react in the presence of Opioids. The first one are the Opioid Agonists, when used, activate the already present drugs on the Neurons. Repeated usage of these drugs makes the persons more dependent and less tolerable on them. Heroin and Methadone are part of Opioid Agonists. On the contrary there are Opioid Antagonists, which completely block such substances. Naltrexone and Naloxone fall under this category.

The properties of Buprenorphine make it fall under Opioid partial agonist medicated substances which also block the drugs but not as extremely as Opioid Antagonists do. However, increasing the dosage of Opioid partial agonist medicated pills such as Subutex never make the person get addicted to this. This is the reason behind the success of Subutex Detox.

No rehab or treatment program is going to work unless the addict is willing and determined to change.

If he enters to rehab thinking and (at some point) knowing that after the treatment he is going to drink or use drugs again, it is a waste of money and everyone’s time.

This is how drugs and alcohol rehabs work:

* Detoxification. Some rehab facilities have personal detoxification programs, but more centers require clients to complete Detox before entering their facilities. You need to clean up and be sober before you can even enter a rehab. The trend today is to have the addict go through the withdrawal process at a facility that specializes in dealing with drug and alcohol withdrawal symptoms.

* Facilities. Rehab facilities are different as far as physical facilities are concerned. They range from simple settings to the very luxurious facilities. * You get what you pay for or what you can afford. * The type of physical facilities that the treatment offers has little to do with how successful their program might be in keeping you sober.

* Education. It is the fundamental component of all treatment and rehab programs. It may vary from facility to facility, but generally the process is aimed at getting you to look at your addiction honestly and realistically, and change your attitude about your drug and alcohol use.

* Counselling and Group Therapy. During the rehab, you will probably receive individual counselling with a trained addictions counselor and you will possibly participate daily in group therapy meetings with others at the facility. These sessions are designed to begin to teach you the skills that you will need to live life without drugs and alcohol. You will learn how to recognize situations in which you are most likely to drink or use drugs and how to avoid these circumstances if possible and you will learn new coping skills.

* Family Meetings. Many successful drug and alcohol rehab programs will include members of your family in your treatment program. Research has shown that including family and friends in the educational process significantly improves rehab outcomes. Some programs include family members and friends throughout the entire rehab process, from the initial assessment through continued follow-up aftercare.

* Aftercare Program. A drug and alcohol rehab program will last about 28 days, sometimes longer, during which you are in a structured environment where no drugs are alcohol are available.

One of the problems with being a drug addict is that even when they realize they are hurting other people and acting out in ways they don’t want to, they can’t stop. Even those addicts who afterward feel very badly about how they behaved cannot stop the next time. * That is what drugs do: they control.

* Drugs invade a person’s mind and many times, their conscience. As much as an individual may want to change their behavior, they are not going to be able to do it while under the influence of the drugs. Drugs completely change people and usually not for the better. *An individual can become a better person, but not a better drug addict.

* The only way to improve is to quit the drug completely. Quitting the drug and getting it out of the system is the only way to improve oneself. All of the good intentions in the world fly out the window when the drug is consumed. The drug addict will continue to hurt their own lives and hurt the people they love. A drug addict who is feeling remorse is probably ready for rehabilitation. That remorse is a good sign. It means the individual has not lost sight of their former self and that they still have good conscience.

* The way to be a better drug addict is to become a former drug addict.

Remorse and guilt are such good signs. They are signs that the addict is ready to work through their problems and give a try at giving up drug addiction. They realize they are hurting themselves and others. This is a perfect time to get into rehab. No one can be a better drug addict because the drugs control the individual and not the other way around.

People who wonder how to become a better drug addict realize that the way they are behaving is wrong and hurtful. Once a person realizes that, it makes giving the drug up easier. The person is able to admit that their actions hurt other people. Many addicts have to work for a long time to come to that realization.

* * * Do what your mind and conscience are telling you to do, and get help for the drug addiction.* * *

Recovery from alcohol and/or drug addiction is not an easy process.

While there are things that loved ones can do to be supportive and helpful, it also is not necessary to walk on eggshells. Encouragement is one of the best aids a recovering addict can receive. Whether the person has been through rehab once or several times, encouragement will still help. It shows confidence which often is what the addict is lacking at this time. Along with encouragement, a positive attitude helps.

No one should be condescending to the recovering addict. They are recovering from addiction, not stupid. There also is no need to cater to their every whim. During recovery, the addict needs to readjust to living a normal life. Loved ones should try to make home life as normal as possible. Eventually, the person in recovery will ultimately be exposed to drugs and/or alcohol again and will need to learn to over come the temptation. It is best, however, to keep these items out of the recovering addict’s home. The temptation, at first, may be too great if the substance is within easy reach.

Encouragement is one of the best aids a recovering addict can receive.

Occasionally, recovering alcoholics need a little nudge to get back into the swing of things. Gentle reminders to look for employment never hurt anyone. Try not to nag, however. Continue to be firm that no drugs or alcohol will be permitted in the house.

* A recovering addict is rediscovering a sober life.

Those around him or her should be themselves. There is no need to coddle or over compensate and there is no reason to follow them around like a blood hound. If the addict wants to go back to drugs and/or alcohol, they will find a way so there is no need to constantly watch them like a child. If they do relapse, however, take swift action. Insist on their going back to rehab and make it clear that you will not allow your home to be turned upside down again by drugs or alcohol.

It can be very awkward to be around a recovering addict or alcoholic, but most of that is that loved ones do not understand how to behave. Loved ones should behave the way they normally do, only add a little encouragement and praise on occasion without being condescending. Life can be a little shaky at first when a recovering addict comes home but the best thing loved ones can do is be there for them.

You have been on a long journey.

You got hooked on drugs, went through many life-changing experiences, lost just about everything and finally decided to get clean. You did a residential program and you vowed to your family, friends, counsellor and most importantly, to yourself, to stay sober. You have been released from the residential program.

How do you keep the promise to stay sober after drug addiction?

1. Get in and stay in a support group. These are people just like you who have been where you have been and are where you are now, dealing with the urges and fight within yourself to stay sober on a daily basis. No one else can quite get how you feel or where you are except someone who has walked in your same shoes.

If you feel an urge, show up at one of the groups. Your friends there will not let you down.

2. Staying sober involves not only you but those around you. Just as others do, addicts in recovery face every day life stresses. In their cases, however, they also have to fight the urge to give in one more time, just to forget what is going on. The key to handling this is honesty. This is not a scary thing as you have already been honest with your family by stepping up and getting into treatment. Letting them know that you fight urges is not embarrassing. You have already demonstrated your honesty by getting clean to begin with.

3. Do not give in to temptation. The easiest way to avoid temptation is by staying away from areas and people that are addicted. If you are an alcoholic, stay away from bars. If you are recovering from another substance abuse problem, stay away from the friends you “partied” with. If they are still doing drugs, it is not in your best interests to run around with them. You do not need to feel bad about this. It involves self-discipline and has everything to do with maintaining a successful recovery.

4. Your allegiance must be to yourself and to your family. Hanging out with friends who are still on drugs is not good for you. This is when a lot of people in recovery begin to make new friends and why having a support group is so important.

5. Staying sober is a daily task. As long as you understand this, you can do it successfully. As long as you realize what being sober means and what it is worth, you can take the steps necessary to stay sober each and every day. Support groups meet at different times during the day for just this reason. If you feel an urge, show up at one of the groups. Your friends there will not let you down. They know where you are coming from.
