Drug Addiction 101

Drug addiction is sometimes a very fast process.

Some drugs lend themselves to addiction much more quickly than others. Sometimes in the beginning, the signs are small and barely noticeable. Other times, and as the addiction grows, the signs become more obvious and more severe. Since every drug is different, they all present a different set of symptoms. There will be, however, a change in habits regardless of what the drug is.
When there are several signs occurring, it is best to contact a rehab center.
Normally there are mood swings that become more severe as the addiction grows. There is also a big change in money spending habits. Small amounts at first, then larger amounts of money go missing and the addict can’t or won’t explain sufficiently where the money went. A pronounced desire for privacy will also begin. They will begin to keep their bedroom door locked, or the den, wherever they are doing their drug of choice. Sometimes, but not always, violence becomes an issue. This is especially true when the addict cannot get any drugs.

There may be weight gain or weight loss depending on the drug. Also, a change in energy may be noticed. A drug addict will want their drug of choice as soon as they wake up. That is why they often have a drug kit containing the supplies they need and the drug, right next to their bed. Some may wear inappropriate clothing, such as long sleeves in the warmer months. Perhaps there will be more auto accidents or more clumsiness than there were before.

* It is usually a combination of signs that send up a Red Flag *

People know their loved ones and their friends. When someone starts behaving in a bizarre manner, people notice. When there are several signs occurring, it is best to contact a rehab center and find out more information on what to do next.

There are very many different symptoms of any given drug. Behavior changes tend to come in clusters. It normally isn’t just one or two, but rather a lot of different things that will be noticed. If there are behavior changes in someone you love, it may or may not be a drug addiction, but it is best to have all of the information you need in case it is. Look for signs and symptoms of different or bizarre behavior in your loved one as well as appearance changes such as weight loss.
