What made him do it?

Many crimes in sad situations have been pointing their fingers to drug addiction as the main reason why all this is happening.

However, there are some people who are contradicting the idea. Although, addicts are not able to think or act properly if they are under the influence of drugs, but still it does not mean that this is the reason why they are committing such crimes.

Here is a short sad story that might give you an idea on what I am trying to imply.

In a poor city somewhere in Asia, a young girl at the age of 19 has been working very hard to finance her studies. She left her home in the province to pursue her dreams and help her family from poverty. During her stay in the city she rented a small room where she is trying to get closer and make her dreams come true. She studies in the morning and works in the afternoon; and she is being able to manage her time and finally reached the final year of her degree.

She was living alone. Friends would visit her in her room once and in while. One day, it was 8 o’clock in the evening while in her room studying, when a man knocks her door. It was the son of her landlady; she has known this guy for several years so she let him enter in her room, without noticing that the man is under the influence of drugs. Conversation took place and after an hour commotion and broken objects, was heard by their neighbour. Thinking that it was just a normal situation, the neighbour did not bother to look at it.

Next morning the landlady went to her room and found her lying on the floor with blood all over. At that time she still is alive, but unfortunately she finally died at the hospital. Her family could not believe what happened. She was their only hope. Her landlady kept silent for several days, but because her conscience continues on bothering her, she went to the police station and narrates what happened. Her son attempted to rape the girl, but the girl resists and manages to fight back and that’s why he killed her.

When asked by the police officer “what made him do it?” according to his mother, her son does not know what he is being doing because he is under the influence of drugs and has been the family problem for several years now. The question is if he really doesn’t know what he is being doing all these years because of the drugs, and how come he was able to narrate everything to his mother and even asked her to help him?.

Since he is only 19 years old, he was not being held in prison instead he was brought to a rehabilitation center to be treated. His case will be dealt accordingly once he reaches the age of 21.
