Use of estrogen drugs – problems to do with the reproductive cycle have been treated since just after WWII with manufactured estrogen and progesterone drugs as hormone replacement therapy (HRT).
HRT has been thought to alleviate “symptoms” of menstruation and menopause. HRT was attractive as it also tended to reduce the appearance of aging. HRT has always been known to have bad side effects, such as endometriosis, endocrine imbalances and cancer in female reproductive organs.
Women’s “problems” are caused by disruption to the balance between the estrogens and progesterone, which regulate the female reproductive cycle, The majority of so called women’s problems are now known to be caused by too much estrogen – estrogen dominance – in which high levels of:”bad” estrogen in the body upset the ability of regulatory hormones, such as the adrenals and thyroid to function properly in the body. This can lead to fibroids, endometriosis and sometimes cancers.
Estrogen dominance can cause hypothyroidism – this makes people feel tired and they tend to put on weight. It can also lead to adrenal fatigue – when a person feels completely wiped out and extremely depressed – it is very much like “burn out”. The adrenals produce progesterone – when this hormone is upset by estrogen or estrogen supplements it can make the estrogen dominance worse.
Estrogen dominance leads to cramps, headaches, and mood disorders. Too much bad estrogen increases levels of cortisol and prolactin – too much of these chemicals brings about PMS and makes people put on weight.
Using synthetic estrogen supplements has over the years tended to bring about an increase in the symptoms that the estrogen drugs were intended to suppress.
Now natural estrogen supplements are available, usually as phytoestrogens derived from plants and available as food supplements. Phytoestrogens decrease cortisol production, promote health and inhibit the growth of tumors. However, these phytoestrogens, together with bio identical progesterone replacements still mean that the body is being put into a drug regime to relieve a multitude of apparently diverse “illnesses”, all the result of an over abundance of “bad” estrogen metabolites in the body.
While the body is being medicated with drugs – the body can’t properly self regulate and work to eliminate bad estrogen naturally. The reason we get bad estrogen is due to toxic stress.
There are now natural supplements to moderate both estrogen and progesterone levels, not by delivering the hormonal product, or its biological equivalent, but by nurturing and stimulating the endocrine system generally to be more productive and balanced. Such sites promote the use of non-estrogenic herbs, so as to better enhance and optimize health.
Estrogen dominance can also be caused by xenoestrogens derived from toxic chemicals to be found in many synthetic products that attach to estrogen receptors. Phytoestrogens from plants are usually helpful.
Studies have shown that primitive diets that consist mainly of a variety of unprocessed foods – fruit and vegetables and little meat are helpful to prevent disorders of the reproductive cycle and those associated with aging. Nutritional supplements are indicated in western countries because much of our food is devoid of nutritional content and over processed. Using good food and holistic methods is better than HRT reliance and dependency for ongoing women’s problems. These problems are only a symptom of estrogen dominance – and estrogen dominance itself is caused by toxic stress at a physical and emotional level.
Rather than keep using medical drugs to separately “treat” women’s illnesses and disorders (which are really only symptoms) – why not simply use healthy food and holistic remedies – to help the body to heal itself and get rid of the root cause.
